Volume XIV Winter 2021
Hey Beautiful People,

Can we talk Vitamin D? How long has it been since you've had yours checked? Great docs check their patients' Vitamin D 25(OH) levels yearly.

More times than not, I'm the one asking for this lab. I'm not really sure why this lab isn't standard especially in the time of COVID.

Below you will see research from a new study from the University of Barcelona, Department of Internal Medicine. It is shows just how crucial vitamin D is for not only preventing death, but ICU visits and outcomes.

The only problem I have with all of this is that our "experts" didn't tell us this information sooner and there is still crickets now. Why is this? I was hearing about the vitamin D efficacy from researchers back in April.

How many lives could have been saved?

Vitamin D isn't just for COVID. There are a myriad of other benefits that I outline in my YouTube video. Not Important but Crucial. "THE TOP BENEFITS TO YOU OF VITAMIN D."

There's a lot to consider when taking Vitamin D. You must have your levels checked before taking. It's best to work with a health care practitioner on the right dosage.

Vitamin D is best taken with a healthy fat like an omega 3. Also, for many physiological reasons, D is best taken with Magnesium Glycinate, Taurate or Threonate (better absorbed forms of this mineral). Magnesium is taken the same day as Vitamin D, but doesn't have to be taken at the same time. Magnesium is best taken at bedtime.

Conventional lab levels of D are not accurate. It's best if your levels are above 50 ng/dl.

Sunshine is the best way to get our Vitamin D, but many people are still deficient. Here are the reasons why: "WHY YOU ARE VITAMIN D DEFICIENT" GET YOUR LEVEL CHECKED! Because I care . . .

Grace, Peace and Love,

Lindy
I call Maggie my "Energizer Bunny" patient. She's been with me on and off for almost 3 years. Maggie's health challenges have been some of the most severe of anyone I've seen in my practice.

She refuses to give up even though she's been derailed a few times. She even had COVID back in March.

I can assure you that a different person sits looking at me in my office than did 3 years ago. Maggie now possesses vitality and confidence. She has also lost 25 pounds.

She still has challenges, but the woman just won't give up. Maggie's determination will continue to reward her.
There has been experimental and observational studies on COVID & Vitamin D since the Spring. I've written about this many times.

READ DOWN & SEE WHAT ELSE WHAT ADDED TO THE THERAPY!

These studies were criticized because they were observational (can't prove causality) & the experimental studies were small.

There were a few methodological issues with this paper as well. It was an open randomized trial rather than a placebo-controlled randomized trial. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the results are invalid. It means we need a peer reviewed, placebo-controlled study done immediately. The results are still interesting to note.

A new preprint from the University of Barcelona - Dept of Internal Medicine:

  • 930 participants.
  • 551 received calcifediol (a potent form of vitamin D)at admission
  • 379 did not receive
  • 50 patients in the control group who later required ICU admission received calcifediol at the time of ICU admission
  • All hospitalized patients received standard therapy consisting of HCQ (Hydroxychloroquine), azithromycin and ceftriaxone when there was infection.
  • Patients with severe pulmonary inflammation or cytokine storm were also treated with dexamethasone.
  • Vitamin D was added to this standard therapy—it wasn’t the only treatment they received.

OUTCOMES:

  • Calcifediol treatment reduced the risk of ICU admission by 82 %.
  • 55 % lower risk of ICU admission than patients with 25(OH)D levels ≤20 ng/mL.
  • Treatment with calcifediol reduced COVID mortality by 64%
  • Patients who died had significantly lower baseline 25(OH)D levels vs. patients who survived
  • Obesity increased the risk of ICU admission by 2.55-fold. Previous research has shown that vitamin D deficiency is much more common in the obese.

QUESTIONS: With the initial findings of the Spring with Vitamin D AND HCQ therapy, what harm would it have done to check every patients' levels and administer this therapy at the onset?

Why is the larger study now being done? If we are "following the Science" why wasn't this study done in the US? These are ridiculously inexpensive therapies... might that be the reason?

Berberine Balance
Douglas Laboratories
I've used this supplement in my practice for many years for lipid normalization and blood sugar control.

Berberine Balance supplies berberine combined with alpha lipoic acid and grape seed extract for healthy blood sugar and cardiovascular support. Recent studies indicate that berberine, a naturally occurring alkaloid found in a number of plants, is an effective supplement for helping to maintain cardiometabolic health. Grape seed extract is a well-known antioxidant with heart health benefits, and alpha lipoic acid helps to support proper insulin function.

There are more benefits of Berberine. Please watch my Youtube video,

THE 10 MOST COMMON

At the beginning of 2021, I launched a new series called, "The 10 Most Common Weight Loss Mistakes." Here are the first 3 in the series.
Lindy speaks to a WIDE range of audiences—from athletic teams, health care professionals, law enforcement, church groups, teens, business organizations. . . she will tailor the talk to the subject and length you desire. Call or email.
A CLUELESS MURDER

Winter can be challenging with a lack of outdoor activities. Adults most definitely love to dress up and be "theatrical." The solution? My friend, Heather, had a great idea to host a murder mystery night called, "A Clueless Murder."
Most of the characters were taken from the game, "Clue" and the guests outdid themselves with their costumes. Heather made an amazing feast and the laughter, creativity and camaraderie will warm my heart and memory for a long time
Piper went back to school in August with a month long on-line school in December. Piper loves her friends and names all the girls in her 5th grade class as her "Besties."

Piper was chosen to be in the upcoming 5th - 8th grade spelling bee. We can't attend live, but it will be videotaped. She competes against older kids this year, but we are proud she is participating.
Mom simply LOVES the monthly "Kid Pik" she receives from her grandparents. It's a lot like the adult "Stitch Fix." Piper receives several outfits and a pair of shoes. The reveal is done through FaceTime with her grandmother. Mom gets as excited about this as Piper. It's really cool (the dress in the pic is one of the items).
Lindy Ford understands the power of nutrition personally. Several years ago she applied nutritional protocols to overcome a debilitating health crises.

This is one of the reasons Lindy’s passion is helping people achieve greater freedom through wellness and nutrition. She holds a degree in Nutritional Science and Dietetics from the University of Maryland. Lindy also holds a degree in Theatre / Communications from Towson University (weird, she knows). She is a Registered Dietitian and Licensed Nutritionist.

Lindy loves her job. She runs a private nutrition practice in Wilmington, NC, but counsels people all over the US through video conferencing. Lindy practices functional/integrative nutrition or “what works nutrition.” The goal is to get to the root of the problem and then base treatment on up-to-date science. This approach takes longer, but the results are superior and long-lasting.

Lindy’s patients have particularly benefited from her expertise in issues related to blood sugar, heart disease, weight control, the GI system and the thyroid.
